1. What size van or truck do I need?

A variety of different size vehicles are utilised to cater for different delivery requirements. When you complete the application form you will be asked to provide details relating to your vehicle.


2. Do I need any special knowledge and are there other specific requirements?

You will need a good general knowledge of the Metropolitan area in your state. You will also need to be committed and reliable, have numeric ability, a mobile phone and an ABN, as well as the relevant licences and insurance for your vehicle type.


3. What areas will I be delivering in and where will material be collected for delivery?

You will generally be offered contracts delivering in Metropolitan areas, however, some Regional and Country deliveries may also be available. Material will be collected from a Salmat Warehouse, or an alternative location in some areas. As distribution requirements are determined by our clients, Salmat is not able to provide a guarantee in relation to minimum distribution volumes.


4. What will I be delivering?

Catalogues and on occasions other print material, including samples and newspapers. You will be delivering to a field network of contract Area Representatives and Distributors who are engaged on an independent contracting basis.


5. What days and hours will delivery work be available?

Carriers are normally offered distribution contracts on Thursday/Friday and Sunday/Monday, however, distribution services may also be required on some other days of the week as well, depending on Salmat client requirements. As an independent contractor you will have control over the hours you work provided delivery deadlines are met. It may be necessary to commence early, and finish deliveries late in the day on occasions in order to meet requirements.


6. Do I need a Visa/Working Rights?

In accordance with Australian Government legislation, all applicants must have the right to work in Australia. If you are not an Australian or New Zealand citizen, you will be required to produce documentation to verify and support your identity and working rights.


7. Will I be an employee of Salmat?

No. If your application is successful, you will be appointed to provide services to Salmat as an independent contractor and not our agent or employee. If necessary, you should obtain advice as to what this means for you.


8. How is payment determined and how do I receive payment?

You will be paid contractor fees on a results basis for each distribution. Payment is determined by the volume and weight of material delivered, and the area in which you deliver. Payment is made direct to your nominated bank or building society account.


9. How do I apply?
